NEW NUMBER PLATE REGULATIONS FOR KZN

All you need to know about the New Number Plate regulations in KZN.

The plates are expected to look something like this:

All existing numbers can be kept for a further period of 2 years until 31/12/2025.

This is so long as the number remains on the same car it is currently on and ownership of that car does not change.

You cannot retain any specific number with current derivatives of ND, NUR, NP, NU etc.

You will be able to retain the new format numbers when you have them.

All new cars will be issued with the new format numbers.

All transferred cars from one owner to another will get the new format numbers.

Stolen and recovered vehicles when relicensed will get the new format numbers.

You can keep your existing number for 2 years and can renew your licence at any place that does renewals. After 2 years you are compelled to change to new number format.

You can op to change to the new number plates system at any point in time from from 01/03/2024 and this has to be done at your local licensing authority (and not at a post office or online).

Plates can be acrylic or metal and can be obtained from any number plate embosser (Contact us if you wish to convert or have the new plates made).

Personalized numbers can be retained but the physical plates will need to be converted to the new format (blue & white) and will no longer be green.

Special licence numbers (short numbers) if they were purchased by you from the department can be converted to the new format but will have the ZN at the end. For example if you owned ND 1234 you can apply to the dept within the next two years to convert it over for FREE to ND 1234 (logo) ZN. This is however only if the number is available. If not you can chose any other option that is available.

Personalized Numbers have now been changed back to 7 characters excluding the ZN. They are now blue & white as per all other plates.

Email us on dealer@license-busters.co.za for help to convert your numbers or apply for a FREE ZN number if you are allegeable for one.
